Matthew 6:9

Matthew 6:9 - "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name."

If prayer is something God wants us to do without ceasing - then we better know how to do it. This was the request of Jesus' disciples - to teach them to pray. That was the only thing the disciples ever asked Jesus to teach them. Why? Because they witnessed the intimate relationship between Jesus and His heavenly Father and the power He received as a result of His prayers.

A powerless Christian is a prayerless Christian.
A powerless Church is a prayerless Church.

Notice what He does not teach us.
1. He does not teach the posture of prayer. The truth is - any posture will do.
2. He does not teach us the place to pray. Any place will do.

I Timothy 2:8 - "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting."

3. He does not teach us when to pray.
Morning is neither any better than noon or night. Some prayed three times a day - some in the morning - others at night. The key issues are maintaining a constant attitude of prayer and an awareness of God's presence in your life on a moment-by-moment basis.

4. He does not teach us what to wear in prayer.

The main issue is establishing a personal relationship with "Our Father..." and maintaining that relationship through prayer. Let's look at how Jesus taught his disciples to pray. Keep in mind that they did not ask Him to teach them to teach or to preach. They wanted to know about the power of prayer.

There is a two-fold relationship implied here. One - to God's family, and two, to God Hi ...
