Introduction
1. If you are like me there is nothing that you enjoy more than a really great commercial. If you don’t believe in the power of a thirty second or one minute commercial watch the Superbowl and just ask Coke-a-Cola or Budweiser or ATandT how powerful commercials can be. There was a commercial that was made almost thirty years ago, but many years later it was voted by
USA Today as one of the ten greatest commercials of all time. A two word title, ‘‘Got Milk?’’ This was the commercial that put milk on the map. [Show commercial]
2. Every parent from the beginning of time has known that the one thing that newborn baby has to have in order to survive and thrive is milk. It is why God made women with the ability to give milk to newborn children. In a real sense, every one of us owe our lives to milk.
3. What is true physically of our bodies is true spiritually of our souls. If we are going to survive and thrive in our relationship with God, we must have the milk of God’s word. I am not making that up. Let me tell you what one of Jesus’ leading disciples, a fisherman by the name of Peter, wrote in a book called I Peter. [Turn to I Peter 2]
4. It would be the height of child abuse and child neglect to deny a newborn baby of milk. It is one thing to starve the body, but it is another thing to starve the soul. There are far too many spiritual babies who are suffering from spiritual malnutrition and they live their spiritual lives emaciated, weak, and lacking the spiritual nutrients they need to be spiritually healthy.
5. I hear so many Christians today express concern about the way our culture is increasingly rejecting biblical Christianity. I share the same concern, but honestly I am a lot more concerned about evangelical Christians rejecting the Bible!
