ILLUS. - Domino Effect - Sometimes an action sets off a chain of events. Recently I’ve been doing some research into mine and Kristi’s family trees. I told Kristi the other night ... just one of these people dies to soon, etc. ... we are simply NOT. It’s sort of wild to think about! OR ... ‘‘Hey, I sure am glad they had 15 kids because the guy in my line was the youngest!’’ Looking at a family tree is like looking at the dominoes after they’ve all been knocked over. Spiritually sometimes we can look back and see what feels like a domino effect. - Now, we know God is sovereignly working ... but He also works as we live by faith. Many times we can look back and think ... wow I never knew when I ___ that later ___. It looks like dominoes ... but it’s God at work in the life of His people. - We are going to see that today.
Warren Wiersbe noted ... John the Baptist was like Elijah ... living alone, sort of a loner. He noted though that Jesus was more like Elisha ... ‘‘visiting homes and enjoying meals.’’ Today is one such dealing ... he encounters a wealthy woman who first ministers TO HIM. - She’s known in the Scripture simply as the Shunnamite, she as from Shunem.
Her story will be a reminder for us how God works in our lives through the funnel of faith. I heard it said years ago ... ‘‘faith is like the funnel God pours His grace through.’’ - It’s true ... and also His power ... and many of His blessings. - God expects us to live by faith. Today we will see the power of faith in the times of BLESSING and TESTING ... and how ultimately God is telling a greater story of His RESURRECTING power. All through this story we will see GOD AT WORK. In fact, throughout the story we see this woman living by faith ... and God working. God works in and through her life as she lives by faith. - In the end we get an incredible miracle that still speaks to us today.
