ILLUS. - Here in a little while our service will end and I already know what every single one of you are going to do. No, I’m not a prophet ... but I know. Some of you are already thinking about it, making plans. Some of you are already thinking ... ‘‘Why did you have to bring that up? Now, I’m going to be ... hungry.’’ Of course, I’m talking about going to lunch. You may go home and eat, or you may go to a restaurant ... but you are most likely planning to eat lunch. Now, sometimes we eat to LIVE and sometimes we sort of LIVE TO EAT. Know what I mean? Sometimes the food is just FUEL ... other times we eat to ENJOY. There are some things that are luxuries in life and some things are necessities. - We all need food. That’s a basic human need. - And food is maybe my favorite necessity. Hunger much like sleep reminds us of something ... we are not God. We are in need. We can’t just go, go, go ... we have to rest ... and we have to eat. In fact in the Bible hunger and thirst are used to point to deeper spiritual issues. - Hunger reminds us we need more than food ... we need God. But the God of the Bible cares about our BELLIES and our SOULS. He cares about us body and soul. He cares about your life today and forever. - In fact ... He is committed to His people and cares about the DETAILS of our lives. In today’s passage God is going to faithfully care for His own. The two stories revolve around food. God will show Himself actively involved in the lives of His people ... right down to a single meal in their life. - But these stories remind us of our need, God’s ability to care for us ... and a better more lasting nourishment.
