2 Kings 6:8-23
ILLUS. - Seeing clearly is important. It’s more important for something than others ... you don’t want to ride in a car w/ me for instance if I don’t have my contacts or glasses. But at night ... when I’m asleep ... I take those things out. I don’t need them in my sleep ... but driving ... now that’s a big deal. - Some careers eye sight would be more important than others right? - The Atlanta Braves this year had a player struggling batting a bit and he had to have eye surgery to correct a vision problem. - I can’t imagine trying to hit a 97 mph fastball that’s moving sideways to ... I certainly can’t imagine it with a bad eye. - Seeing clearly matters. Spiritual sight is important to. - We need to behold and walk in spiritual truth ... but the truth is ... people are born blind to it. - Even as believers we need to grow and mature ... to become discerning of truth and error. Spiritual blindness is deadly. For the believer spiritual vision problems are destructive to your spiritual health. In today’s story we see the importance of not being blind to SPIRITUAL REALITY. Elisha was a man who understood spiritual reality and didn’t let his circumstances BLIND HIM to what was TRUE SPRITUALLY. I’ve been blind to my spiritual condition before ... lost ... spiritually dead ... but thought I was OK. - Every believer’s been there. - God opens our spiritual eyes ... so that we can SEE our spiritual reality... He opens our spiritual eyes to see the truth of the Gospel. - Seeing spiritual reality is important. - It continues to be important throughout the Christian life ... w/o it we can’t take hold of God’s promises, we can’t walk by faith. We will stumble around doubting God. - We need the light of God’s Word and eyes to behold and live in that light. Today ... in this story w Elisha we can see three clear keys to living with clear spiritual vision.
