How many of you have a family-photo album? What was in your first photo album? I suppose mine was my ‘‘baby book.’’ It contains my birth announcement, baby shower gifts and who gave them, a record of my first steps, first words, and several other ‘‘firsts’’ I probably don’t need to mention.

Then came my athletic photo album, starting in the fourth grade! It contains ‘‘action shots’’ of my running and throwing, baseball games, track meets, basketball games, programs, newspaper articles, etc.

Then of course I have a wedding photo album. We hired a professional photographer and paid way too much money, to have various moments of our wedding day documented forever in the Easley family archives.

Afterwards, we started having children and my wife decided that each of our three children should have their own personal photo album, documenting special and specific events of their life. For example: their birth, all their birthdays, Christmas, vacations, school activities, sports events, church activities, graduations, and weddings!

But she didn’t stop with creating their own personal photo album; at the same time, she created our family photo album, documenting specific and special events of our family. For example: Christmas, vacations, various other trips. Anything we did as a family and everywhere we went that she felt needed remembered.

Do you know who is responsible for all those photographs? You say, ‘‘Your wonderful wife!’’ No. Now, my wife is wonderful, and she did take many of the photographs, and it was her idea and project, but she wasn’t ultimately responsible for those photographs. It was a man named Joseph Niepce, who is credited for being the creator of photographs. The world’s first photograph, or at least the oldest surviving photo, was taken by Niepce in 1826 or 1827.
