The First Piece of Your Puzzle

How many people enjoy putting together a puzzle or solving a word puzzle. When you’re a kid, those puzzles are fun because they have 8 pieces which are all big and it’s easy. Plus, when a kid gets those finished, he/she is excited. Have you ever noticed that the older you get, the worse your eyesight gets, and the SMALLER the pieces get - and there more of them? In a flash, those 8 big pieces turn into 8-million-minute pieces. Anyone besides me get frustrated with puzzles? Anyone but me have ‘sworn off’ puzzles? I stopped doing puzzles for spiritual reasons, it always led to repentance of some kind.
Have you ever thought about life as a puzzle? For some, it can be like an 8-piece puzzle, but for most, it’s like the 8 million piece and you have trouble finding the right piece fitting in the right place in the right way at the right time. Life can be challenging - Forest Gump-Chocolates) Well, who am I to criticize Forest Gump’s mother, but I beg to differ with her? If I were to make a philosophical statement like that it would be this: ‘‘Life is like a garden, be careful what you plant, so you’ll know what you reap.’’ Or ‘‘Life is like a puzzle, it only works when you fit the pieces in the right place.’’ Today from Matthew 6 - the first piece of life’s puzzle.
This is what we are talking about today, ‘‘LIFE’’. A life. YOUR LIFE. MY LIFE. In life, most of us want peace, joy, love, security, and HAPPINESS. For most of my 30 years of preaching, I would say: ‘‘God is not concerned with our happiness but for our holiness.’’ Make no mistake, like it or not, God is deeply concerned with our holiness (Be Holy), but I would offer that holiness and happiness, in God’s eyes, are not mutually exclusive, rather I deeply believe, they are mutually connected. In fact, as our creator, He probably knows He has the answer for both.
