Philippians 4:6-7
1. I read about the wife of a Federal District Court Judge, who at a clearance sale found the perfect green tie to match one of her husband's sport coats. A little later, the couple was relaxing at a resort to get his mind off a complicated cocaine conspiracy case. He noticed a small round disc sewn into his tie. He thought it was suspicious and called the local FBI, who was equally suspicious that it might be a bug planted by the conspiracy defendants. The agent sent the device to FBI headquarters in Washington, DC, for analysis. A few days later the judge phoned Washington to find the results of the tests. He was told, ''We are not sure where the disc came from, but we discovered that when you press it, it plays Jingle Bells.'' 1
2. Quite often we find ourselves worried about matters that we need not worry about at all. As Mark Twain said, ''I am an old man and have known many troubles, but most of them never happened.''
3. There have been repeated studies that show that most of the things we worry about are not legitimate worries.
4. Margaret P. McCordie of the University of Wisconsin, found in a study that: . 40% of the things we worry about never happen . 30% of our worrying is about things over and past that could not be changed by all the worry in the world . 10% Petty worries . 12% Needless health worries . 8% Real legitimate worries.
5. A study at the University of Michigan found similar results: . 60% of our worries are unwarranted . 20% have already become past activities and are completely out of our control . 10% are so petty they don't make any difference at all . Of the remaining 10%, only 4-5% are real and justifiable. . And of the remaining 5%, you can't do anything about half of them. .
