Spiritual Blessings (10 of 21)
Series: The Upper Room

John 15:7-11
Blessings or benefits are those things we receive because of our relationship with someone. They might buy something for us or give us a gift or take us somewhere or provide for some need.
The point is that what we receive from them is a result of the
relationship we have with them.
Jesus gives his disciples four spiritual blessings of abiding in him.
1. Our prayers are answered in :7.
2. God is glorified as we bear fruit in :8.
3. God’s love for us is demonstrated in :9-10.
4. Our joy is complete in Jesus in :11.
Prayer Answered :7
Our faithfulness
Abide (NIV remain) – Gk. continue, dwell, remain or stay.
In reference to your condition or state it means to stay where you are – not to change. It emphasizes permanence and steadfastness.
For the Christian it means to continue to stay connected to the
Lord for your spiritual life. If the branch is not connected to
the vine, it has no nourishment for life and therefore no fruit.
William Barclay – “The secret of the life of Jesus was his contact with God; again and again he withdrew into a solitary place to meet him (Mark 1:35). We must keep contact with Jesus.
We cannot do that unless we deliberately take steps to do it.
It will mean constant contact with him. It will mean arranging life, arranging prayer, arranging silence in such a way that there is never a day when we give ourselves a chance to forget him.”
Abiding is recognizing the presence of Christ in your life.
Take time everyday to read your Bible to hear from God.
Take time to thank God for his goodness to you.
Take time to pray to share the concerns on your heart.
Take time to thank God for answers to prayer.
His word
Jesus did not what them just to remember what he had said, but
to believe it so they would obey it. Abiding in Jesus is to obey the words which he said because it shows we really believe them.
