Finding Freedom

Most graduating Seniors have one thing on their mind: FREEDOM! (I remember) I’m finally done, out, completed and FREE!! Well, I have good and bad news today. The good news, you have completed this chapter, cleared this hurdle, and been successful to this point in your life. The bad news is you’re not done, not out, certainly not COMPLETED, and whether you are free or not is still to be determined. Be reminded that your academic graduation is called a ‘‘Commencement, not a Termination’’, you are just beginning the learning and living process. More lies ahead.

The truth: Freedom is never really free. Someone, sometime,

someplace, bought whatever freedom you may have, so cherish the freedom that you have, wherever you have it and whenever you find it. My prayer for you today is the same as I wish for everyone today. That we leave ‘‘FREER than when we came in’’. My prayer is that you find freedom like you have never had, not because I want it for you or said it to you, but because Jesus died for you to have it, enjoy it, and live it. TEXT

Presently, I’m re-reading a book by an acquaintance (Vance Pittman). The title is one word and very compelling, ‘‘Unburdened.’’ Unburdened sounds like ‘freedom’, and that’s good. Yet often, in church, we feel the opposite.

Vance tells his own story, which by the way ‘‘I have lived’’. Asked by a fellow airline passenger what he did for a living, Vance said, ‘‘You’ll never guess - in 100 years’’. So, the guy guessed and finally Vance offered, ‘‘I’m a church pastor in Vegas.’’ After a few minutes of quiet, they man asked, ‘‘What religion are you?’’ Oh, the common ground I find in Vance’s heart and mind when he gave this reply, ‘‘Well, I’m not religious at all.’’ The response was predictable, ‘‘How can you be a pastor without being religious?’’ Vance calmly said, ‘‘Easy. I don’t believe in religion.

I think religion drives more people away from God ...
