Love Where You Are (4 of 4)
Series: Love Where You Live
Jim Perdue
Acts 1:6-8
Intro/Attention
This is our last sermon in the series, Love Where You Live. Over the last several weeks we have talked about how we can show the love of Jesus in practical and tangible ways. Can I just say something before I begin this sermon? THANK YOU! I have been blown away by how you have embraced this movement as a church. I know that some of you are still sitting back on the sidelines watching what’s going on. But so many of you have jumped in wholeheartedly and embraced the vision of Love Where You Live. It’s been incredible to see what God has done.
*Just over these past few weeks, in addition to our regular ministries operating as they normally do, we have gone above and beyond to love our neighbors and the nations.
You took up over $23,000 in a spontaneous offering for a young couple seeking to adopt a baby.
You hosted two community cookouts feeding hundreds of people in two separate communities.
You provided breakfast for the Public Works and Waste Management Departments.
You filled over 160 bags of food for needy families and their children over spring break.
You provided food for teachers at Huntington Middle School and Russell Elementary.
Many of you literally gave of your own sweat, blood, and tears at a Blood Drive for the Red Cross.
Not to mention our Memphis Mission Trip that saw our students and many adults sharing Christ’s love and seeing lives changes.
And that’s not all. I have heard countless stories of people taking Love Where You Live cards and baking cookies for their neighbors, prayer-walking their workplace, paying for the person behind you at the drive-through, and so much more.
And, we’re not done yet. This week, on Wednesday night, we have our Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt and thousands from our community will be here to experience the love of Christ and hear the gospel.*
And, of course, next week is Easter ...
