James 1:19-21

Originally, I intended to cover these three verses - but as I prepared, I saw this is not going to happen, so let's look at verse 20-21 next week.

Too often people believe that praying a prayer, getting baptized, or joining the church is the end of it all. How many times have I heard someone say, ''Preacher, don't worry about me, I got it right with the big guy.'' Most of the time this attitude comes from one of two types of people. It is the person who hasn't been to corporate worship in years outside Christmas or Easter, has never really committed anything to the Lord or her church. This could be you, your dad, mother, brother, sister, children, or friend, but there is a huge spiritual, Biblical problem with this. The second type of person who generally says this is the one who simply 'take his/her' place on Sunday morning. They attend - AND THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH! Their attitude is 'don't allow yourself to get too involved or taken with the things of the church, it's just a sideline event, it's something I do because I'm supposed to. I'm not going to get too emotionally attached, too physically involved, and certainly not go overboard - BUT ''PREACHER, I'm good.''

Candidly, it doesn't matter who these people are - they are likely not good before the Godhead. Why? See what Paul writes about this.

Ephesians 5:25-30 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hates his own flesh but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church, since we are members of his body.
