Introduction: Hey thank you for joining us for this second week of advent. The traditional theme for the second week of advent is peace and in honor of that theme, I wanted to bring a message that I’m calling The War of Christmas. Now before we do anything else, let me just say that some of you got excited when you heard that title, because you misunderstood me. You thought I said the war ON Christmas. And you’re pumped because you’re hoping I’m going to go off on all the attempts to kick Christ out of Christmas or kick Christmas out of our culture. And listen, is there a war ON Christmas? Probably. Are there are stores who make their employees to say ‘‘Happy Holidays’’ instead of ‘‘Merry Christmas’’? Yes. Are there places that sell Holiday Evergreens instead of Christmas trees? Yep. Do people write X-mas instead of Christ-mas? Absolutely. So is there a war on Christmas? Probably...I’m just not really triggered by it. Some people are.

A couple of years ago, it was Christmas time and I was in line behind a woman buying some stuff and the cashier said ‘‘happy holidays’’ and the woman in front of me flipped out! She was yelling at this clerk for ‘‘being on the front lines of the liberal war on Christmas.’’ It went on for a long time and it was super uncomfortable for everyone. I felt pretty bad for the cashier. Look, I don’t know if Walmart told her she had to say ‘‘happy holidays’’ or if she was trying to be politically correct or if she wasn’t even really thinking about it when she said it... all I know is that when I got up to there and she finished ringing me up, she looked at me at said, ‘‘have a nice day.’’ Spirit...broken. I’m not sure the best way to handle a Grinch is by acting like a scrooge, but maybe that’s just me. Anyway...is there a war ON Christmas? Yeah, there is. And you know when it started?
