John 19:23-27
ILLUS. - I don’t think anyone in their last living moments on this earth thinks ... ‘‘Can you bring me my phone? I need to check FB one last time!’’ I don’t think anyone says ... ‘‘I’ve got a little more work to do, bring my laptop, I need to send an email.’’ Nobody says ... ‘‘I had two episodes left of that show! I hope there is Netflix in Heaven.’’ Nobody says, ‘‘I need more money!’’ - No ... people have more important things on their minds than entertainment or work. - People don’t want their phone near them or their TV ... they want their family. - They are concerned about their FAMILY, the people they love. Jesus in his final hours took care of His family that was in need ... His mother. We are reminded that Jesus loves the family, and He makes us family. If you are in Christ today ... we are family. We have responsibility to one another, and to our families. Let’s listen today this scene from the Gospel of John where get the third of Jesus’ sayings on the cross ... today He takes care of his mother ... and there is much for us to be reminded of and challenged by from this passage.
John 19:23-27 - 23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 so they said to one another, ‘‘Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.’’ This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, ‘‘They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.’’ So the soldiers did these things, 25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ‘‘Woman, behold, your son!’’ 27 Then he said to the disciple, ‘‘Behold, your mot ...
