Fathers: The Head of the Home

Ephesians 5:22-6:4
An old English Proverb states: ‘‘One father is worth more than a hundred schoolmasters.’’ Cal Farley spoke volumes when he said, ‘‘A boy is the only thing that God can use to make a man.’’ Focus on the Family President James Dobson comments: ‘‘The Western world stands at a great crossroads in its history. It is my opinion that our very survival, as a people, will depend upon the presence or absence in masculine leadership in the home. Fathers hold the keys to the preservation of the nuclear family.’’
Harvard University did a study on the importance of fathers in our nation. The study consists of an interview of 370 men who had graduated from the university. These men were the ‘‘successes’’ from our society. Armed with degrees from Harvard, they went out into their respective vocations and succeeded. Yet, many of them were scarred and wounded by fathers who were not there for them emotionally as they were growing up. Dr. Samuel Oshershon concluded the research by saying, ‘‘These findings convince me that the psychological or physical absence of fathers for their families is one of the great underestimated tragedies of our time.’’ Time Magazine recently released a study that showed 70% of all juveniles in state reform institutions come from fatherless homes. Sad to say our day is a day of ‘‘deadbeat dads’’ and failing fathers. Fathers have overall shirked their responsibility of being the leaders of their respective homes. According to a recent George Barna report, last year, I out of every 5 homes was maintained by a woman with no father figure present.
There was a father who walked into shoe store to buy a pair of shoes, size 8.
