Intro/Attention

This is the second to last sermon in our series entitled, Heroes of the Faith. We’ve been looking at some great lives from God’s Word over the last several weeks. We have focused on some men and women in the Old Testament whom God used in extraordinary ways. Today, we come to a lady named Esther. There’s a book in the Bible that bears her name. Find it and let’s learn a little bit about Esther’s story. The king had rejected his queen named Vashti. So, all of his hired hands decided to try and find him a new wife. READ 2:5-11 The Bible tells us in 2:15, ‘‘Esther was winning favor in the eyes of all who saw her...’’ (ON SCREEN) Then the adversary to the Jewish people, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews. READ 3:8-9 Esther is now in a position of prominence as the queen of the land. But she couldn’t just go into the presence of the king without risking her life. READ 4:13-14 Esther boldly replied in verses 15-16. READ 4:15-16 Through her courage and faith, Esther saved her people from Haman’s evil plan. In fact, this evil man named Haman was hanged on the gallows he had built for Mordecai. READ 7:10 - PRAY

It is the only book in the Bible that doesn’t mention God’s name. But like Shakespeare’s plays, every page bears testimony to its author. Behind each scene you can see the shadow of the Almighty directing from the wings.*
