Intro/Attention

This morning, we continue a series I’m calling, Heroes of the Faith. Today, we come to a man named Samson. Find the book of Judges in your Bible; that’s where you’ll find Samson’s story. Specifically in Judges 13-16. Samson was the twelfth and final judge of Israel. A physically strong man with many glaring weaknesses. Once commentator noted; *Bold before men, Samson was weak before women and couldn’t resist telling them his secrets. Empowered by the Spirit of God, he yielded his body to the appetites of the flesh. Called to declare war on the Philistines, he fraternized with the enemy and even tried to marry a Philistine woman. He fought the Lord’s battles by day and disobeyed the Lord’s commandments by night. Given the name Samson, which means ‘‘sunny,’’ he ended up in the darkness, blinded by the very enemy he was supposed to conquer.* Yet still, we see that God used Samson in spite of his sin, shortcomings and failures. *A teenager got his driver’s license and asked his father, who was a pastor, if he could use his car. The father said, ‘‘You can use my car on three conditions. Frist, bring your grades up. In fact, Samson had long hair and it was the secret to his super-human strength. It wasn’t until Delilah cut his hair that he lost his strength.
