Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
ILLUS. - Fellowship Meal - Last week while I was out sick you all had a nice fellowship meal. I heard good things about it. People enjoyed, and the food was good. I know that because y’all were kind of enough to save us some and send it our way. Churches have been doing fellowship meals for a long time. - In fact the early church had big meals together as well. - People enjoy that time together. - But ... it’s not primarily about the food. - Now, the food at this meal was good. But it’s not primarily about what’s on the table... but who’s at the table. It’s not about the food on the table, but the people at the table. - It’s about relationships. - We need them.
God made you and me to live in community. - I’ve shared this before. The Trinity reminds us of this. God exists within perfect community with Himself. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Perfect friendship, perfect community. - God didn’t make you and I because He was lonely. You and I are made in God’s image. That means a lot, but it also means we are made for community. We are made for relationships, and friendship. We’ve talked in this Reset series about the importance of God’s Word and prayer. We want this thinks resetting our lives and values. They are key ingredients to living a life formed by the Gospel. - Community, Relationships, friendships are also a big part of our spiritual journey. Whether its corporately, or individually ... as we think about resetting, realigning ... a fresh start in a new year, spiritually, etc. ... we must realize we are not to live alone.
I can’t remember where I heard this, but I agree with it ... among other things ... the church should be a RELATIONSHIP FACTORY. This should be a place where friendships are made. Families are formed.
ILLUS. Cross - Vertical and Horizontal Beam. - We get a right relationship with God and a new community/family called the church.
We need to be doing li ...
