BATTLE OF THE BUDGET
or
CHOOSING LIFE's ALTARS
Miles Seaborn
2 Samuel 24:24

INTRO. Lunch with Leo, Mark 4 (car), successful,
wealthy, crushed! Like Hezekiah had turned his face
to the wall and asked God to die! Two sons seemingly
utter failures. Where did I fail? "I guess I gave
too much money too soon in the wrong way. I misused
money."
On what altar are you placing your material
possessions and the purpose of your life? Many altars
call out and reach out for your time, talent, and
possessions. You and I choose which altar we will
place possessions and ourselves on.
David had sinned and needed to make sacrifice to God.
His loyal subject was more than willing to give it to
His king. But David understood a basic principle of
life.
"If it is worth anything, it must cost something!"
ILL. Of human logic. "I'll share with God if I have
it and if it doesn't distract from the rest of life.
If anything is left, Lord, it's yours!"
ILL. Of mother's Saturday cake baking! Speckled
mixing bowl, wooden spoon, and 300 strokes. My
reward? I got to lick the bowl! Her stubby finger,
hardly a drop left. Giving God the drippings.
But why does it have to cost something? Jesus knew
where your treasure is there will your heart be also!
But where do we start?
