INTRODUCTION> Psalm 23 seems to give us some timely truth for our day. For example, the question comes to mind when I read [23:2]; Have you ever felt ‘‘stressed to the max’’; ‘‘worried’’; or have you ever been touched by both at the same time? Is the pressure of ‘‘stress’’, ‘‘worry’’ weighing you down at this moment and it is robbing you of rest...of your appetite ...possibly destroying relationships at home?

*’Worry’ and ‘Stress’ are the burlap bags of burdens. They are cumbersome; unattractive and scratchy. These heavy burlap bags of burdens are irritating to carry around and impossible to give away.

Let me explain to you what ‘‘worry’’ and ‘‘stress’’ will do to the average person. These things will make you double-minded. ‘‘Worry’’ and ‘‘Stress’’ will make you split your energy between today’s priorities and tomorrow’s problems. Part of your mind will be on the now, the rest is on the ‘not yet’. The result is half-minded living. ‘‘Double-minded person is unstable in all his ways...’’
To my knowledge, ‘‘worry’’ and ‘‘stress’’ are not diseases, but they could cause sickness. These 2 problems have been connected with high blood pressure; heart trouble; blindness; migraine headaches; and a host of stomach disorders.
These 2 problems (‘worry’ and ‘stress’) that we tend to carry around have never brightened anyone’s day; they’ve never solved a problem, nor cured a disease.

[Someone took Psalms 23 and turned it into this bit of poetry that describes the problem we are having with ‘‘stress’’, ‘‘worry’’, and ‘‘deadlines’’.] ‘‘The clock is my dictator; I shall not rest. It makes me lie down only when exhausted; It leads me to deep depression, It hounds my soul. It leads me in circles of frenzy for activity sake.
