INTRODUCTION: The moment we get into the family of God, we have the privilege of following the Lord. [Think about this.] Our responsibility is to stay close to Him, look to Him; walk with Him, hear His voice and obey what He says. Our responsibility is not to try and find the right path on our own. Our responsibility is to follow the right path that our Shepherd leads us to.
*The Psalmist wrote about God’s Guidance for His people: ‘‘HE LEADS ME IN THE PATHS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS for His name sake.’’ This is not a suggestion made by the Lord; this is a Standard given for our life. In this study, we are going to see ‘what path’ our Lord, our Great Shepherd leads His sheep; and we are going to see ‘why’ He chooses His paths.
[note]> There were times that the Shepherd had no other choice but to lead His sheep through difficult places. The path was not always beside the gentle stream, but sometimes by the roaring waters. The path was not always over the delicate grass, but sometimes He led them through the valley of the shadow of death.
But the path He followed always ended up somewhere special. The Shepherd always led His sheep in the right paths to the right spot. He led them to the best places.
*The sheep must be willing to trust that ‘‘somewhere’’ to the Shepherd’s judgment. They must simply follow Him without hesitation and reservation.
*Look carefully at this phrase in {23:3b}- ‘‘...He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.’’ [Here is what we learn from these words.]
*The Shepherd not only ‘Ministers’ to His sheep - He Masters His sheep. *The Shepherd not only ‘provides’ for His sheep - He guides His sheep. *The Shepherd not only ‘protects’ His sheep - He directs His sheep.
*This is the reason why it is important that our Shepherd restores His sheep from their wayward journey. He has a path He wants to take them; it’s called ‘‘the rig ...
