INTRO: I'm grateful for youth camps. They help keep
you young; they are God's opportunity to speak to your
heart.
ILL. You all heard about the 89-year old man and the
87-year old woman that got married. They went to
Dallas and spent their whole honeymoon just getting
out of the car!
It was at Falls Creek I met my wife, heard and
surrendered to God's call to preach and had a sense of
direction to a mission field. Every time I go to
youth camp God does something special to me, and I
need it.
ILL. The reason I need it is because sin and
worldliness collect in my life as a Christian. Not
far from here is a beautiful area called Turner Falls,
and in it there is a place called "Blue Hole." Many
years ago the highway ran right alongside it and
anyone could stop by. In the spring it was deep,
clear and blue, but as summer deepened and hordes of
people came, beer cans, paper, watermelon rinds,
cigarette butts collected and files swarmed all
around. It wasn't fit to swim in. Then one of those
tremendous summer rainstorms would come, usually at
night as it does in these mountains. We who worked
there on the waterfront at Falls Creek waited for that
because we knew that in the morning that water would
be clean again! The corruption was washed away by
torrents of water rushing down those little mountains.
We couldn't wait to get over there early in the
morning and swim.
Now God has that sort of spiritual experience for us
here this week. He wants to cleanse and sweep away
the corruption and filth of our lives, the sin that so
easily beset us, makes us pure, clean and useful
again. That is why He says, "If we confess our sins,
God is faithful and just to forgive us to sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
