Sermon Summary: The Four Resurrections is an Easter sermon that looks at the four Christ-related resurrections: 1st Jesus’ resurrection, 2nd water baptism resurrection, 3rd spiritual resurrection, 4th bodily resurrection.
INTRODUCTION: This past week the Babylonian Bee reported the following: MURFREESBORO, TN-Middle Tennessee Baptist Church was having problems with church members failing to silence their phones during service. But not anymore, thanks to the church’s new, state-of-the-art ejection system installed in every seat throughout the sanctuary. The ejection seats reportedly allow watchful ushers to launch disruptive offenders through the church ceiling, out the roof, and hundreds of feet into the air with the push of a button.
That headline is not only facetious and satirical, it’s irrelevant to our lives. A cursory reading of any legitimate newspaper on any given day will reveal that much of the news reported has little to no real relevance to any of our lives. But that is not true of the news that I want to talk about today and that is the ‘‘Good News’’ of the gospel. At this time of year, in what most people call ‘‘Easter,’’ folks all over are thinking about the resurrection of Jesus. Even though it is an event that occurred 2000 years ago, it is still the most relevant news available to every one of our lives. But why? The relevance of Easter can be explained by looking at four resurrections. We’re going to talk about the four resurrections of Easter - and that’s no joke.
I. JESUS’ RESURRECTION (Object Lesson - Stone) Lk.24:6 ‘‘He is not here, he has risen.’’
