Ruth 1:1-2
There are a lot of misunderstandings when it comes to Christianity and culture, but the truth is... all of us who've been saved by Jesus have a place in fulfilling His great commission.
It doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman... a Jew or a Gentile... it doesn't matter if you're educated or uneducated... if you're qualified or unqualified... God can use you and He desires to use you!
I recently heard someone refer to Biblical Christianity as a ''Boy's-Club,'' as if to say, the only important characters in God's story were men. But the truth is... the Bible wouldn't be complete without the women of the Bible.
I think about Sarah (the Mother of the Jewish Nation) and Rebekah (the wife of Isaac). You've got Rachel and Leah, Jochebed and Miriam. Deborah and Hannah... and even Rahab. Don't forget about Eve... and Mary... and the list goes on.
There are so many influential women who shaped history and helped create the gospel story we know today. Today, we're talking about one of those women-and her name was Ruth. (If you have your Bible, join me in the book named after her; the book of Ruth)
[Ruth 1:1-2] During the time of the judges, there was a famine in the land. A man left Bethlehem in Judah with his wife and two sons to stay in the territory of Moab for a while. 2 The man's name was Elimelech, and his wife's name was Naomi. The names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They entered the fields of Moab and settled there.
This story begins with a family living in Bethlehem; a dad (Elimelech), a mom (Naomi), and two sons. The Bible tells us there was famine in their hometown, and so this family decides to relocate to a place called Moab, in order to escape the famine.
Moab was about 50 miles away from Bethlehem. In that day it was known as a pagan land. The inhabitants of Moab worshipped the false god Chemosh, (whose name mean ...
