Show Hospitality One To Another
Miles Seaborn
I Peter 4:7-10
''But the end of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore sober and watch unto prayer, and above all things have fervent love among yourselves. For love shall cover a multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man has received the gift, so minister the same one to another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.''
So often we forget that hospitality is a gift from God. Notice in 1 Peter 4 that Peter connected hospitality in verse 9 with ministry in verse 10. Christian hospitality is a gift with which we minister to the glory of God.
In my own life and ministry it has been my privilege to travel many places. I'm so grateful to God for people who have the gift of Christian hospitality.
Our Lord Jesus promised that if we would forsake our homes and serve Him then He would reward us a hundred fold, and I have experienced, along with my family, the fulfillment of that promise.
I can go so many places where doors are open to me. I'm grateful that my family has had the privilege of experiencing of sharing Christian hospitality in their own homes. Our four children have grown up expecting people to be there. They enjoy it; they have been enriched by it.
Of course we live in a generation now who is more concerned about getting away from home that in being home. And for some reason we don't have the kind of old fashioned Christian hospitality that we used to have.
As a caring Christian, may I recommend that you use your home as a place of ministry to serve God. No matter how humble, no matter how plain, use your home to serve God and reach people for His glory.
That's why He gave it to you; you don't have that house and furniture and food just for yourself and family. It is there to share. Remember, ''Use hospitality one to another without grudging.'' (1 Peter 4:9)
