Revelation 3:7-13
INTRODUCTION: Tonight at 6:30pm the eyes of the nation will be on SoFi stadium in Los Angeles, CA as the Cincinnati Bengal sand the Los Angeles Rams battle it out for Super Bowl 56.
At the end of the game ice water will be poured over a coach. Champagne bottles will pop, and the coveted, Vince Lombardi trophy will be handed to the owner of the winning franchise. It will be passed around to the coaches, the quarterback, and everyone will get to revel in the glory as the fans and the world watches.
It is enough to make a Pastor question his career choice. Have you considered the fact that if we get everything right, if we double in size, if we heal broken homes, if we preach the Gospel to the world, never will:
The cameras of NBC arrive on the campus to capture our celebration life. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, won’t come and perform between points in my sermon. There will be no boat parade with the Pastors of our Church tossing trophies from boat to boat.
What then are the rewards for being a faithful church this side of eternity? I was told when I surrendered to the ministry that preaching doesn’t pay much, but the retirement plan is out of this world! Well, we all know about the blessed by and by, but how do we survive the hellish now and now?
Well our Lord knows something about Human Psychology, as a matter of fact, He invited it. And He has woven INCENTIVES, Temporal rewards for the churches that stay by the stuff, that preach, honor and obey the Word of God.
Revelation 3:7-13 is a case study in being a r church. Faithful church. As the fiery eyes of Jesus Christ are turned upon this church in the city of Philadelphia, he see nothing to criticize, nothing to correct. This is a good church. There is only praise, encouragement and reward for this blessed people.
