Revelation 3:14-22
IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE SECOND SERVICE: We will have an informational meeting about the ‘‘Footsteps of Paul’’ tour of Greece and Asia Minor this Fall.
OPENING: We come now to the final church in this opening section of 7 letters in the book of Revelation. This seventh letter is perhaps the most familiar. It is the letter to Laodicea, the lukewarm church.
It has been my experience that the familiar passages are often the most difficult to preach. We feel as if we have already graduated from them, moved on to the more obscure and difficult passages.
Nevertheless, passages like the one before us today are famous for a reason. Lives have turned on the hinges of such passages. They have served as a spiritual AED a defibrillator for the soul for many generations.
Passages like this hold great promise, but you must meet the preacher half way. You have to assume that our Lord may be speaking to you through this text. Not your spouse, not some church that you used to attend. Perhaps he is speaking to you.
With that attitude in mind, look with me at... TEXT: Revelation 3:14-22 (ESV) 14 ‘‘And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.
In each of the 7 letters Jesus has introduced himself with a different title. To Ephesus - The one who holds the 7 lampstands To Smyrna - The first and the last. To Pergamum - The one who holds a sharp two edged sword To Thyatira - The Son of God with eyes of fire. To Sardis - The one who has the 7 fold Spirit of God To Philadelphia - The one who holds the key of David And now to Laodicea - the words of the AMEN.
Amen means - ‘‘This is true’’
