The Flu That Outlives You!
Ernest Easley
2 Kings 13:20-21
If the two-year-old covid pandemic hasn't been challenging enough, add to it our annual flu season! According to the CDC, in the United States, ''flu season lasts from October to May. Peak flu activity happens from December to March.'' We just can't seem to catch a break!
The 2019-2020 flu season, per the CDC, there were an estimated 35 million flu-related illnesses-that number includes 16 million medical visits for the flu; 380,000 flu-related hospitalizations; and 20,000 deaths due to influenza.
So, what is Influenza? It's a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory passages causing fever and severe aching. It's also called the ''flu.''
Now with that in mind, would you please take your copy of the word of God and turn with me to the Old Testament book of 2 Kings. Once there, find chapter 13. It's from this 13th chapter of 2 Kings we're going to find from an obscure passage of scripture, that there is a flu living in you! And as a carrier of this flu, you are extremely contagious.
Now I can hear somebody thinking, ''You've got to be kidding!! I've fought through Covid, I've avoided the influenza, and now you're telling me after all of that, there is in flu in me?'' Yes, that's what I'm telling you. And you need to know as a carrier of this particular flu: no shot can stop it, no pill can pause it, no mask can make it go away and quarantine only spreads it more!
The flu in you has no particular season! In fact, it's AWLAYS flu season, 365 days a year, every year. And something else you need to know about the flu in you: it will outlive you!
Do I have your attention? You say, ''Ernest, enough already!! What is this flu I'm carrying that's so contagious and lasts not only all year long but that will outlive me?''
Well, it's closely related to the word ''influenza.'' Take a good hard look at this word: ''influenza.'' Break it down: In-flu-en-za!
