Soap and Water
A pastor and his wife were asked to dinner by one of his church members. He knew she was a bad housekeeper but still agreed. When he sat down at the table, he noticed that the dishes were the dirtiest he had ever seen in his life. ''Were these dishes washed?'' he asked his hostess, running his fingers over the grit and grime. She smiled and replied, ''They're as clean as soap and water could get them!''
The pastor and his wife felt a bit uncomfortable, but blessed the food anyway and they started eating. The food seemed really delicious and the pastor even complimented the lady, despite the dirty dishes, but when dinner was over, the hostess took the dishes outside and yelled, ''Here Soap! Here Water!''
The Teacher was checking her student's knowledge of proverbs. ''Cleanliness is next to what?'' she asked. A small boy replied with real feeling: ''Impossible.''
USHERING IN A CLEAN WORLD
There was a man named Dave who was blind. For a period of time we were working with him, bringing him to church and helping him out. Dave began to come along regularly; more than anything I think he liked the fact that people in our church cared about him. One day some of the ladies in our church went over to help clean his apartment for him. When they set to work, they encountered filthiness they never would have imagined. His kitchen cupboards were covered in the evidence of cockroach visitors and cockroaches that had decided that Dave's place was a good place to die.
