The Good Ole Days
Merriam Webster's definition of the good old days:
''A period of time in the past, which a person thinks were pleasant and better than the present time.''
In the 1960s, everything seemed possible. Those were the good old days.
I was born in 1960 and things were so different in those days, in my mind and in my special little memory closet, those days were so grand, but maybe that is because the only memories I want to have were the good ones.
It seems like yesterday, when we would all gather on the empty lot on the corner of North 4th and Oak Street and there we would play baseball. The captains would throw the bat up in the air and go hand over hand until someone's thumb capped the top of the bat.
We had a gang of boys and girls that always come to that lot and we would play until it got dark. Our little town was small and we had stores within two blocks of the house in every direction. Most all of them were owned by German's who operated the store in the front of the house and lived in the other part of the house.
I remember going to Collis's grocery every morning before school and trying to win one of those spotted gumballs, because if you did, you won a lucky rabbit's foot, not sure how lucky the rabbit was that gave up his foot for me.
You could actually buy penny candy, those were the days. We had a little patch of woods that seemed like a mighty forest when I was a kid, with our own tree house and fort, those were the days. In front of the woods was the Big V, where one could buy ice cream and hamburgers. Across the ...
