What Should I Do With Christmas? (1 of 3)
Series: Holy Christmas
James Merritt
John 1:1-8
Introduction
1. It would be fair to say that most every American knows the basic story of Christmas. At one time or another, they have all heard the elements from the virgin birth, to being laid in the manger, to the wisemen, to the angels and shepherds. Although, only fifty-seven percent of Americans believe those four things really happened. The real story of Christmas goes way back before Bethlehem, wisemen, mangers, or shepherds. Before Christmas was ever celebrated on earth, it was contemplated in heaven.
4. What we are going to do in this series is explain why Christmas is not just a happy day and it is more than just a holiday. It truly is a holy day. What makes the story of Christmas so holy is what happened before the Christmas story.
5. I have entitled my message ‘‘What should I do with Christmas?’’ I chose the title deliberately and carefully. See, we all know what to do at Christmas, because for the most part whether you believe in the story or not, whether you are a follower of Jesus or not, whether you go to church or not, we pretty much do all the same thing at Christmas. We eat. We shop. We eat. We decorate trees. ...
