Introduction



1. Living in America nobody has to tell you it is Christmastime. We love to celebrate holidays in America, but where you work almost without exception you get to get seven days off - New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Now by far and away, the most popular holiday both in the United States and around the world is Christmas. More than two billion people in 160 countries will celebrate Christmas. In the United States, nine-out-of-ten people celebrate Christmas, but one-third of them celebrate it not as a spiritual holiday, but as a cultural holiday.



2. I want to propose that many, if not most of all people who celebrate Christmas, really don’t understand why we do. Everybody can tell you why we celebrate every other holiday. We celebrate New Year’s Day because it is the beginning of a new year. We celebrate Martin Luther King Day, because of what Martin Luther King did for civil rights. We celebrate Memorial Day to celebrate those who died in the military. We celebrate Independence Day to celebrate the Declaration of Independence. We will celebrate Labor Day to celebrate the value of work and workers in America. We celebrate Thanksgiving Day to give thanks for all the blessings that our Creator has given to us.



3. If I were to ask you why we celebrate Christmas Day your kneejerk answer would be ‘‘We celebrate the birth of Jesus.’’ If you really understand Christmas, that is not the primary reason we celebrate Christmas. There are a lot of great people that have birthdays that we don’t celebrate. Christmas is the birthday of Jesus which is the most celebrated birthday in the history of the world.



4. The reason is why we are doing this series called ‘‘Holy Christmas,’’ because Christmas unlike all the other holidays that we celebrate is more than a holiday. It is a holy day. In fact, it ...
