Jonah 1
A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. ‘‘Mr. Smith, can a whale really swallow a human?’’ the little girl asked. ‘‘It is physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human,’’ Mr. Smith said. ‘‘Even though it is a large mammal, it has a very small throat.’’ ‘‘But Jonah was swallowed by a whale in the Bible,’’ the girl said. ‘‘The Bible must have been mistaken,’’ Mr. Smith said. ‘‘It’s just impossible for a human to be swallowed by a whale.’’ ‘‘Fine,’’ the girl said. ‘‘When I get to heaven, I’ll ask Jonah what happened.’’ ‘‘And what if Jonah went to hell?’’ Mr. Smith asked cheekily. ‘‘Then you ask him!’’
