Romans 12:1-2
Introduction
1. There are certain days, that for whatever the reason are burned into our hearts and minds and always will be no matter how much time passes by. A good example is the day we just recently celebrated. No matter what happens we will always remember Christmas Day. As an American, we will always remember the 4th of July. That in and of itself is not unusual, but what is unusual is for an entire year to be seared into our mind and into our heart. No one will doubt that 2020 is for sure that year.
2. From a worldwide pandemic that literally brought us to our knees, to a nationwide political contest that in some ways has almost become a civil war, you would be hard pressed to find anybody to say that they aren’t glad that 2020 is in our rearview mirror. It is hard to conceive of how things could get even worse this year.
3. If there has ever been a time to put one year behind us and be thankful that is it over and have another year before us with hope that things are going to be better it is this year. That is why we are beginning a series we are calling ‘‘All Things New.’’ [Gene - give a summary of how to describe the series.]
4. We are not looking to come back to the way things used to be. We believe this is a chance to not just restart, but to reset. Realizing how quickly life can come to an end, how our world can turn upside down and how what we thought was safe and secure can be lost in a moment. When life gives us its worst, how can we still live life to the best? Our church believes the answer comes straight from God and his word. You know our mission statement: We exist to point people to Jesus and inspire them to live the cross shaped life.
5. We believe that not just the good life, not even the best life, but really the only life worth living is a life lived for Jesus, in Jesus, and like Jesus. It is a cross shaped ...
