Introduction



1. I had an interesting conversation recently with a young man who was going through a difficult time because he had just broken up with a lady that he thought he would marry. They finally decided to break up because they just couldn’t agree on one thing which is huge I think in any marriage and that is having children. He wanted to have children; she didn’t. It finally came to a head when she finally admitted to him, ‘‘I don’t even like children.’’



2. She certainly wasn’t like Jesus in that respect, because Jesus adored children and children adored Jesus. In fact, it was the way that children were treated on one occasion that drove his blood pressure through the roof. It shows not only how much Jesus loved children, but a great eternal lesson we can learn from children ‘‘People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ’Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.’’ (Mark 10:13-16, NIV)



3. It is natural for parents to want the blessing of God on their children’s lives. It is why parents dedicate their children in church or have babies christened. All these parents simply wanted was for Jesus to put his hands on them and bless them. The disciples started acting more like bouncers in a bar and Secret Service Agents stopped them. Jesus got indignant.



4. That word ‘‘indignant’’ means to be full of anger at something that has been done wrong. Jesus was hot. This was one of the few times that Jesus was angry with his own team. Usually, he was angry at the Pharisees and Saddu ...
