Introduction



1. One of the most popular presidents in history, Theodore Roosevelt, said this, ‘‘The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.’’ I find that hard to argue with because at the end of the day, every single part of your life and mine is all about relationships.



2. Just think about it. Your spiritual life is determined by your relationship with God. Your vocational life is determined by your relationship with your employees, your boss and your fellow workers. Your social life is determined by your relationship with your friends. Your marital life is determine by your relationship with your spouse and on and on it goes... At the end of the day, what life is all about is making those relationships work.



3. It doesn’t take you long, even as a child to realize it is hard work. As you go through life it doesn’t get easier. You see, relationships are difficult, because we are all different. We are different in so many ways. Like one bad apple can spoil the whole barrel, one bad relationship can spoil your day. How much counseling and therapy is given to people all over this world every day just because of relational conflict and confrontation?



4. There is an old poem that says it all perfectly. To live there above with those that we love Won’t that be heaven’s glory? But to live here below with those we know That’s another story. There is nothing as beautiful as a harmonious relationship and there is nothing as burdensome as a hurtful relationship.



5. Recently, the staff and I went out for a bit of fellowship and we went to eat together and there was a waitress there and her name was Donka. As I ask every waiter and waitress, I simply said to her, ‘‘Donka, we are going to pray for our food, how can we pray for you today?’’ You ought to try doing this as a habit, ...
