Series: Rebuilding - Questions From Nehemiah

Nehemiah 2:9-20
One of the things I like about Nehemiah is that he's just an ordinary guy. He never performed any wonders or miracles. He never served as a prophet, priest, or a king.
During the 80 years of Nehemiah's Life:
Arastophenes wrote his comedies.
Herodotus established the study of history.
Thucydides wrote the History of the Peloponnesian war
Socrates and Plato were teaching in Athens.
Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was born in Greece.
And Sophocles wrote Antigone.
Yet by God's estimation the significant event in human history was the rebuilding of the walls of a subservient city in the middle east, under the leadership of a man named Nehemiah.
I submit that when God weighs the history of OUR generation in the balance it will not be the Bill Gates, the Nick Sabans, or the Elon Musks that will hold significance - it will be the church members who like Nehemiah said - I will arise and build for the Glory of God.
I will arise and build in my church
I will arise and build in my family
I will arise and build in my community
I will arise and build in my marriage
That's my desire and aim as we look at the second portion of Nehemiah 2. And with that in mind, I ask, ''Do you want to rebuild?'' Note carefully today's question from Nehemiah. I did not ask ''Do you want things to be rebuilt?'' I asked, ''Do you want to rebuild?''
The first question only requires a desire on your part.
The second question requires dedication, devotion, and duty.
Three things are necessary for any person or any ministry that wants to rebuild.
A Providential initiation (9-10)
In the height of the Civil War, a Union general asked President Lincoln if he thought God was on the Union's side. Lincoln replied, the important thing is for us to be on God's side.
Rather than asking the Lord to be on our side and to bless our efforts, we ought to fi ...
