Nehemiah 4:1-23
In Nehemiah 1-2, God brought Nehemiah to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city. In chapter 3, the work began. Beginning at the ''sheep gate,'' Nehemiah positioned men around the wall. There was a place for everyone and everyone had a place.
Some mixed mortar, some stacked bricks, some cut boards, some worked on the gate. However, as soon as they embraced the work, they began to encounter the warfare.
The great evangelist, D. L. Moody said, ''The devil never kicks a dead horse.'' In other words, the devil never bothers those who never bother him. Nehemiah experiences that in this text and his response leads me to pose today's question from Nehemiah, ''Are you ready to rumble?''
I am convinced that God is about to do a fresh work here in our congregation. But anytime that God is being glorified and Jesus is being magnified, you can rest assured that the attack will be intensified.
If you're not ready to rumble, then you're not ready to rebuild
I heard about a young lady who came in one night and said, ''Fred asked me to marry him but I had to decline. He said he doesn't believe in the Devil or in Hell.'' Her father said, ''Go ahead and marry him. After six months with your mother as his mother-in-law, he will believe in the Devil and he will definitely believe in Hell.''
Well, if you're going to build or rebuild something for the Lord, you'd better believe in the Devil and in Hell. And you'd better be ready to rumble against them both.
