Will You Say, ''Oh, No!'' to Ono? (8 of 21)

Nehemiah 6:1-4
In the 1980s, Nancy Reagan helped to launch a campaign against illegal drug use. The slogan was simple. Some said it was too simple. But it made sense to me when the First Lady advised America that when you are tempted to ruin your life with drugs, ''Just say NO.''
Several ministries that focused on purity picked up this theme. And across the culture, many words of advice were simply, ''Just say NO.'' That's excellent advice whether you're fighting drugs or immorality. But Nehemiah uses it to fight a demonic attack against the work of God.
When invited to quit his work for God and travel to the plain of Ono, Nehemiah says, ''Oh No'' to Ono.
You have an assignment to embrace
When Nehemiah came to Jerusalem, he had received an assignment from the Lord.
That assignment had been affirmed by King Artexerxes. But it's vitally important to note that when Nehemiah came to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, he came on business for the king. But it wasn't the king of Persia. He had an assignment from the King of Glory, the King of Heaven, and the King of Kings.
It sounds ''romantic'' and ''spiritual'' when we read it here. But every child of God has received a Divine assignment. The moment you were converted you received the Holy Spirit. And when He took up residence in you, He came bearing spiritual gifts to enable and empower you to serve the Lord in some specific way.
As we read this assignment that Nehemiah had, let us keep in mind that we have a Divine assignment, too. The only question is, ''Will we embrace and fulfill that assignment?''
It may be to pastor, teach, lead, give, or sing. I don't know WHAT your assignment is but I know THAT you have an assignment from God.

Over and over, the Scripture speaks of this work being the work and will of God.
