Nehemiah 8:1-6
Three old ladies were discussing the pre-planning of their funerals. They began to discuss what they wanted the pastor to say as he looked into the casket at their body.
The first lady said she wanted the pastor to say, ''There lies a fine
Christian lady.'' The second said she wanted the preacher to say, ''There lies a good wife and mother.'' The third lady said, ''I want him to look at me and say, 'Look, she's moving!'''
Well in a case where FACT meets FICTION, such has happened.
Last summer in South Africa, a woman was involved in a terrible car accident. She was declared at the Emergency Room and taken down to the hospital morgue to await the funeral home to come and get her body. As she laid in the freezer, she began to move inside the body bag. The woman, whose name was never released because of local superstitions, was clearly showing signs of life!
In January of last year, Gonzola Jiminez woke up in a morgue as technicians were about to perform his autopsy. His body was already covered in dotted-line pen marks made by the coroner as he prepared to do his work.
By the way, psychiatrists recognize a unique phobia called TAPHAPHOBIA. It's the fear of being buried alive. I actually don't think that is a mental disorder at all!
In 2005, Larry Green was involved in a car wreck in Eastern North Carolina. The state patrolman requested to see the body in the morgue to get information to write his accident report. It's then they discovered Green's body was very much alive...and it was obvious that even in his weakened condition, he'd been trying to unzip his way out of the morgue's body bag.
These stories and others were part of a gruesome article in the Washington Post that chronicled stories of these ''death pronouncements gone wrong.'' The article stated that, ''death isn't always easy to detect.''
Well, in the opening verses ...
