I Peter 5:1-4
We continue a study in the book of I Peter. It is a book written by the Holy Spirit through Peter the Apostle. It was written towards the end of his life around the year AD 63. He is writing to persecuted believers encouraging them to keep their Hope In Jesus.

Peter A Fellow Elder v. 1
Peter identifies himself as a fellow Elder
This is Peter 30 years later, but before he was the one who denied Jesus.
Peter was not the leader most would have chosen.
Key Pt: He says he was a witness to the sufferings of Christ. Now this is a
Significant statement. He lets everyone know I was there seeing all
That Jesus went through. He was there but we also know that Peter
Was not really there?
What did He do wrong?
He tried to stop Jesus from doing God's Will, Jesus called him a devil.
He cut off a persons ear.
He said he would never deny Jesus, but all others would.
He abandoned Jesus at the most crucial time.
He denied Jesus 3 times and cursed his name.
He went back to what he did before.
What does that tell us?
That God's Grace is greater than our failure.
That Peter now remembers all that Jesus did for him.
Peter does not let his failure keep him from following and now lea
Key Pt: God's Grace is greater than all your failures and mess ups. When you
Look to Jesus and come back to Him, He will remind you of all that
He has done not what you have done. Jesus is the God of the second,
Third, fourth, fifth chance.
Elders Responsibilities v. 2
Shepherd the flock
Peter is using an analogy that is very familiar in his time.
Shepherd was there to guard, lead and feed the sheep.
Peter calls the church a flock.
