I Peter 5:6-13, Luke 22:31-32
We continue a study in the book of I Peter. It is a book written by the Holy Spirit through Peter the Apostle. It was written towards the end of his life around the year AD 63. He is writing to persecuted believers encouraging them to keep their Hope In Jesus.
I Peter 5:6-13 ESV, Luke 22:31-32
I. Casting v.7
A. Your Anxieties - Worries and Cares
1. The thoughts that cause disruption of personality and the mind
2. It is that which pulls you apart in different directions, distracted or divided.
B. Your worries may be yours but you are not to handle them.
1. Just because something is in your mind does not mean you have to handle it.
2. Jesus warned about worry and the destruction it brings. Matt 6:31-32
3. Worry is something that may or may not come, but in the present it is already
Eating you away.
The logical relationship between the two clauses is as follows: believers humble themselves by casting their worries on God. Conversely, if believers continue to worry, then they are caving in to pride. How can anxiety and worry be criticized as pride? We can see that it might be a lack of faith, but does it make sense to identify worry as pride? Worry is a form of pride because when believers are filled with anxiety, they are convinced that they must solve all the problems in their lives in their own strength. The only god they trust in is themselves.
C Give all them to God. - Stop Worrying and Start Trusting. Exchange.
1. God has not designed you to carry worry.
2. God has designed you to worship the one who can handle all your worry.
3. It literally means to deposit your cares and worry into Him. Ps. 55:22
