Deacon Appreciation
Rex Yancey
John 13:34-35
It is great to be here tonight. Baptist preachers are always glad to be wherever they are! I appreciate Mark for giving me this opportunity. I have been in the ministry going on 54 years. I have never met a deacon I didn't like. However, I have had a few close calls!
I heard about one deacon who fell off his tractor while mowing hay. The mower ran over him and cut his nose off. He was too embarrassed to go to the ER, so he scratched around until he found his nose and duck taped it back on. In a few weeks, he removed the tape and it had healed nicely. There was only one problem. His nose was upside down. He said he could smell as good as ever, but when it rained, he got strangled and when he sneezed, he would blow his hat off!
One deacon had some tests done and was consulting with his doctor. The doctor said, ''You have a terminal illness and have about six months to live.'' The man asked the doctor what he would recommend him to do. The doctor said, ''I recommend you move to a state where the humidity is 100%. Louisana would be fine. I recommend you buy a hog farm and go to hog farming. And I recommend you find a widow with about 8 kids and marry her.'' The man said, ''Doc, is this going to make me live any longer?'' The doc said, ''No, but it will be the longest 6 months you have ever lived!''

1. The first was PERSECUTION. The Jews were not found of a new religion that claimed to fulfill their own prophecies. The Romans held the new religion suspect and persecuted its followers. The persecution scattered the Christians. The temptation was to stay in one place and have a good fellowship.
2. The second problem was PROPAGATION. They were charged to go to the entire world and preach the gospel. How would they do this? Think of the personnel, organization, finances, and strategy it w ...
