Will We Know Each Other in Heaven?
Rex Yancey
1 Corinthians 13:12
A frequently asked question to a pastor is ''will we know each other in heaven?'' The Bible says ''Yes!''
I heard a story about a lady who died and went to heaven. Before she could enter the Pearly Gates, she had to spell a word. Saint Peter told her to spell love. She sounded out L O V E. He let her in. Several weeks later Peter asked her to operate the Pearly Gates for a day. That day her husband appeared before the Pearly Gates. He was thrilled to see her. She told him he would have to spell a word before she could let him in. She said, ''spell Chezkolslavokia!''
I want us to look at seven reasons the Bible says we will know each other in heaven.
1.THE WORD OF GOD IM[PLIES IT.
1 Corinthians 13:12, ''For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part, but then shall I know even as I am also known.''
Paul is comparing the present with the future. He reminds us that our knowledge is limited in this life. There are so many things that we do not know. However, when we get to heaven those limitations will be removed. I believe our identities will be known in heaven.
2.THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS CONFIRM IT.
Luke 16:19-31 This passage was revealed by the Lord to shed light on the afterlife. Three personalities are mentioned: Lazarus, the rich man, and Abraham.
They all recognized each other.
If lost souls have the power of recognition, how much more will saved souls be able to recognize each other? As a parable, figures represent facts, and our Lord's parables were not given to mislead us but to instruct us and enforce heavenly truths on the minds and hearts of the hearers.
3.THE TRANSFIGURATION ILLUSTRATES IT.
Luke 9:28-36, Jesus took Peter, James, and John on the mountain, He was transfigured before them. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared before them. Elijah had been dead for 1500 years. Elijah had been dead for 900 years. There are n ...
