What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done? Think about that today. What’s something you’ve done that took great courage? It’s inspiring to hear stories like that...
I think about Harriet Tubman leading slaves to freedom on the underground railroad... or Anne Frank living in secret and hiding people from the Nazis... or Martin Luther King, Jr. standing up for equal rights... or the first responders and citizens who rushed into the wreckage on 9-11 in order to save complete strangers.
There are so many people that have personified courage throughout the years-and it’s inspiring, YES... but it’s also convicting to some degree... I was thinking about my own personal ‘‘courage stories’’ this week, and the best I could come up with is... I delivered puppies in a bathtub one time... without wearing gloves.
Let me ask you again: What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done? And now let me ask you this: Why did you do it?
Let me tell you something I’ve learned over the years... People that demonstrate great courage always have a good reason for doing so. That’s true today... but really, it’s been true since the very beginning.
Today, we’re beginning a brand-new sermon series that I’m calling, THE OT. The OT stands for Old Testament... Over the next several weeks, we’re going to be diving into the left side of our Bibles... and we’re going to look at several characters in the Old Testament.
These characters were normal people on planet earth, just like us-and yet, God recorded their stories-so that we could learn from their lives and hopefully become more like Him as a result.
The first character we’re going to look at is a young man named Daniel. Daniel’s name literally meant, ‘‘God is my judge.’’ When he would introduce himself, people would ask, ‘‘Who are you?’’ and he would respond ...
