John 2:1-11
Today we begin a Series called Brand New. I actually believe that God has some New Things in store for all of us. I believe that the Old Order of things is vanishing and everything is fresh and new.
I believe that God has been speaking to us as a community and as individual that He has some New Things in store of all us. I am asking for my understanding to be opened to the New. We have been accustomed to the Old when we have been given the New.
Text: John 2: 1-11
Background: Jesus has been baptized and the Holy Spirit has come upon Him in Power. He has chosen His disciples and now is at a wedding that He has been invited to. He has never done a miracle and nobody knows Jesus as a Miracle worker. This is the story of the first miracle of Jesus.
The Presence Of Jesus At A Party v. 1-2
Jesus was at a wedding.
Weddings were different than the weddings we have today.
They lasted often time a whole week! It was a great time of joy and celebration
Jesus is into celebrating Life!
God is not out to crush your life but rather wants you to enjoy life.
The first public scene with Jesus and his disciples was a wedding not a funeral. The Bible commands us to Worship And Celebrate The Presence of God
Let everything that had breadth praise the Lord. Key Pt: God has declared in John 10:10 that He has come to give us life and life more abundantly. God is a God who takes pleasure in joy of life!
The Presence of Jesus Did Not Stop A Problem. v. 3-4
They ran out of wine.
Running out of wine would stop the celebration.
It was a sign of lack and not a good beginning for the new couple.
Key Pt: Wine was a sign of joy. Rabbis said no more wine no more joy.
Jesus was at the wedding.
Just because Jesus was there did not mean a problem would not arise.
Jesus was there and a problem was there ...
