Defeating Fear in This Age of Uncertainty
Richard Bradley
Isaiah 41:10
I don’t suppose any logical thinking person would dispute the fact that we are living in a time of great uncertainty. For instance, can we even remember what our world was like without Covid? And it’s not just that. On top of this seemingly never ending pandemic there’s also political uncertainty, economic uncertainty and hyperinflation, the uncertainty of race relations and the uncertainty of dealing with despotic regimes in almost every corner of the world. That is a pretty formable list of things to worry about and I’m sure it’s not exhaustive.
It’s not my purpose today to merely point out what you already knew but were trying hard to forget. I want to remind you that, as God’s people, we are armed with one of the Bible’s greatest promises for dealing with fear, even in the face of all this uncertainty. There is more than enough truth in this one verse to defeat any fear that may be generated by these extremely difficult days. Please understand, however, that this passage only applies to God’s people. Apart from a saving faith in the Lord’s Jesus Christ there is no guarantee of God’s help in a time when we’re feeling more helpless than ever before. Isaiah 41:10
10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ NKJV
Fighting fear today? Feeling a little helpless and perhaps hopeless? Please be assured that, with God’s help, this too shall pass.
GOD’S PRESENCE DEFEATS OUR FEAR
10 Fear not, for I am with you;
It often feels like we’re the only ones that have ever lived in times of uncertainty. This is not true. Isaiah’s people were suffering through spiritual, political, and economic threats that were just as severe as our own. And yet notice what God said to them. By the way, God’s admonition in this verse was not a suggestion. In ve ...
