Gen 36:9 KJV - And these [are] the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:

Esau was the brother of Jacob and the son of Isaac and Rebekah. He was the wayward son that refused to honor his mother or his father, especially after the deception of his mother and brother.

He had five sons, Eliphaz, Jaalam, Reuel, Jeush, and Korah. This elder son was a man of the field, who became a hunter, with a rough and rugged exterior, which separated him from his brother, the shepherd and herdsman.

Just as Jacob was the progenitor of the Israelites, Esau was the progenitor of the Edomites. Edom was an ancient city that is no longer in existence and they were located of the Kingdom of Judah, in the Transjordan area.

The current location of this former kingdom is located between Southern Israel and Jordan. Edom gets its name from its founder, ''Red'' depicting Esau.

Jewish history teaches that the Edomites would eventually become the Romans and to a much larger extent all Europeans. In chapter 36 we are reading about the linage and reach of the Edomites.

Esau had five sons and ten grandsons, with three of his sons and all ten of his grandsons becoming leaders, which are called ''Dukes.'' All of his descendents married into the Canaanite and Hittite families.
