WHEN YOU WANT A HAPPY FAMILY
Dr. Miles Seaborn
Ephesians 6:1-4
INTRO. Sometimes we spend a great deal of life
worrying about problems that never come.
At a graduation at Dallas Baptist, Dr. L.L. Morriss
used this illustration. He said if he ever caught a
burglar in his home he would hold him and say, "Stand
right here. I want to get my wife and introduce her
to you. She has been looking for you for 20 years."
But the problem of the disintegration of the family is
no fantasy! The family is under a planned systematic
assault by the world, the flesh and the devil.
The family is so important because it is there that
the foundation for godliness and usefulness is
constructed and carried out.
ILL. Dr. James Dobson, small boy wrote him,
"Dear Dr. Dobson, I just finished reading your
book, PREPARATION FOR ADOLESENCE. I am in the
5th grade, I have a girlfriend. She broke up with
me. I have family problems! But listen to the
rest. It bothers me so much I decided to take my
life. A noose. Tried to die but decided I
didn't want to die. Got the noose from around my
neck. Now God and I are struggling together.
P.S. Some of my friends at school want to give
me drugs but I say no. I never will. Some
respect me for it, others call me chicken but I
don't care."
Did you get that? A fifth grader. Family problems,
drugs, suicide. It is all happening here and now.
ILL. Rex Humbard said to one of our Baptist
preachers, "I've been to Africa, India, China and
a breakdown in the family, color of skin wherever
they live, same problem."
The solution is for Christian/churches to raise God's
standard and commit ourselves to live by God's
standards. We can save our families, nation,
institutions. If not, we fail or fall. (All former
great civilizations have died from within!) Eph. 6:1
