Isaiah 9:1-7
ILLUS. - Things Parents Say - ''You can be anything you want.'' ''You can do whatever you set your mind to.'' - These aren't really true right? Parents mean well. But if your kids grows up to be 5'8'' and runs a 5.0 40 yard dash and has a 6 inch vertical ... they are not going to play in the NBA. - None of us are w/o limits. - We don't have super powers. There are limits to our physical abilities and mental abilities. - Hard work, dedication... these things can set you apart, they can help you achieve and maximize your potential. - But we all have certain limitations. And that's OK! - Because there is One who can accomplish all He desires and sets out to do. There is One who has set His mind to do something and has the ability, the power, to accomplish His will. - Jesus is the King who cannot be thwarted.
Today, we continue our series in Isaiah 9:6. - This passage reveals to us character traits, a description of the Messiah. Last week, we saw He is the Wonderful Counselor. - His is gifted with supernatural wisdom and decision making. He perfectly executes His plan. We saw that while in the future we know as Christ followers we will live in a Kingdom guided by Christ's wonderful counsel... here and now we can have his wonderful counsel in our life each day.
Today, Isaiah tells us this child, this son... would be called MIGHTY GOD.
Isaiah 9:1-7 - But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
